This is a messanger of..

Hello friends! it was a good day today and I walked seeing lovely Dogwood trees.  What a strange name!!

We call it as Hanamizuki in Japanese which seem to come from USA in 1915.

We sent Sakura tree and the instead Dogwood from USA in those days  ;)
As a messenger of peace :)

A beautiful idea of an exchange of trees for peace - I love Dogwoods. I reemember them from when I lived in the USA as a child. They don't seem to grow in Europe.

About the name 'dogwood' - very often, the word 'dog' was added, in Old English, to plants which seemed a bit useless. For example, Dog Violets are violets which don't smell. Maybe Dogwood isn't very good wood? But who cares, because it is the flower that matters!

I suppose you are speaking of the cherry trees we have in Washington, DC, our capital. It's a big thing every year when they bloom. Dog woods are the state flower of North Carolina, where I am from. I have one in my back yard, but I will probably have to cut it down. It is growing under the magnolia and has started leaning to the side. Both are beautiful trees. Have a great day!
